Chiropractic Burnout - Don't Let it Happen to You

burnout

Burnout is a long-term stress reaction characterized by;

  • Depersonalization

  • Cynical or negative attitudes toward patients

  • Physical and emotional exhaustion

  • Lack of sense of personal accomplishment

  • Lack of empathy for patients

Along with the pressures of building and maintaining a successful practice, coping with the mental and emotional demands involved in direct patient care and managing issues with work/life balance, doctors of chiropractic also battle issues that threaten their ability to maintain a satisfactory income (eg, managed care, Medicare regulation, proper billing and documentation, scope of practice restrictions, changes in legislation, etc.).

It should come as no surprise that burnout among chiropractors is on the rise.

If you feel that you or one of your colleagues are either experiencing or at risk for burnout, one of the very FIRST things you can do to begin to take action is to reduce stress. One of the easiest ways to reduce stress is to implement systems in your practice that help decrease the physician's office workload.

When you can decrease the amount of "office work" you - the physician - are responsible for, you will find it easier to stop burnout in its tracks and rekindle your passion for helping others along their journey to wellness!
